Is Fannie entering into the rental business??

It looks like Fannie Mae may be entering into the rental business….
This week I found an interesting news story floating around stating that Fannie Mae is signing new leases with renters that are in homes that have been foreclosed upon if they have been holding up their end of the bargain and paying rent.
This really is an interesting twist, Fannie Mae now becoming a land lord. I can see where there is a benefit to the renter with this agreement and possibly a short term benefit for Fannie Mae – but can they really take on being a landlord?
